Wood chips are mainly used as a raw material for the wood processing industry, as well as a biogenic and renewable fuel for biomass heating systems. They are made entirely of wood and are obtained as a by-product of the local forestry activities.
Wood harvesting generates some by-products, other than rhizomes and leafs. These by-products are then dried, chopped and thus turned into wood chips.
Wood chip heating systems are one of the best alternatives among wood heating options, although they require a comparatively larger storage space. Wood chips can be mainly stored under the roof, but outdoors storage is also possible.
